The Thai-TESOL held at the province of KhonKaen opened up on Thursday, the 24th of January with a talk by Dr. Tong-in Wongsathorn, Adviser to the Minister of Education of Thailand. Dr. Wongsathorn outlined Thailand’s policies in English education, which include,
(1) Use of English as the main medium of instruction for the whole hour of English classes.
(2) Expand and support English program Schools and Mini-English program schools with special attention given to schools where poor students enroll.
(3) Provide special remuneration for English teachers who have demonstrated their high English language abilities and effective teaching.

Mga kabayan, may mga ilan po sa atin na pumupunta dito sa Thailand sa sabi-sabi ng iba na madaling makakuha ng trabaho bilang guro [o kahit anumang trabaho]. Hindi po tutoo yan, matumal ang trabaho para sa mga Pinoy teachers ngayon. Marami pong dahilan sa sitwasyon na ito, may mga thread at post sa forum na nagpapaliwanag niyan.
Wag po sanang basta nalang sumusugod sa walang kasiguruhan, plano, o pera man lang. Kung di po tayo “wais”, kung di po natin gagamitin ang ating talino, ay mamalasin po tayo talaga. At wala tayong masisi na iba kungdi ang sarili natin.

Filipinos in Bangkok opened the “ Pinoy Basketball Tournament Season 8 ” last Saturday afternoon at St. John’s International School. The opening ceremony was overwhelming and the Filipino singers were incredible.The venue was packed with basketball enthusiasts young and old alike who enjoyed the Filipino foods and snacks. Children were enjoying as if basketball was there number one sports. In fact some of the children were asking their parents if they can borrow a basketball because they want to play as well.

BANGKOK – Fewer Filipinos are now working here as musicians or entertainers, and more are coming in as health workers, according to Philippine ambassador Antonio Rodriguez.
“Filipino musicians have always been and still continue to be a come-on, especially in the different hotel lounges and music bars here. But there has recently been fewer of them who come here to perform,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez did not cite figures but he attributed the decline to less attractive remuneration and to cost-cutting measures by many entertainment establishments, which now prefer lower-paid local talents. Read the rest of this entry »

A second edition singing contest was held at The Mabuhay Filipino Restaurant in Pratunam. Seven contestants joined the competition this month and among them, it was Madonna who won first place. Thank you to all who joined and witnessed the event. And most especially to Mr. Percy Roxas, The Mabuhay Restaurant and Siam Pinoy for generously donating our prizes for the night.
